skype number not available in Canada?
I was trying to get a skype number to work on my regular phone (landline phone), not mobile (cell). i found on skype website, surprisingly Canada is not even listed, or we are somehow included under USA (given the country code both are 1), any one tried this before?
https://secure.skype.com/en/skype-number/
basically I just want get a skype number, so i can call out or receive call, on my regular phone, but for this i still need an VOIP adaptor?
if i use skype number on my 7-11 (not the same as speakout number), i should not be charged by speakout, right?

Even with a Skype number, you still need a subscription if you wish to use Skype to make calls. I have a Hong Kong Skype number with "country" code +852. I also have free Skype worldwide dialling as part of Microsoft 365 Family. They give you free 60 minutes of talk time per month per user account. Calls to Hong Kong will have my local Hong Kong Skype number as the caller ID (as Skype says and I haven't been able to verify). Calls to North American numbers will show my cell phone number - I think I set that up within Skype a long time ago.
However, all that is done on my mobile phone with the Skype app. Landline phone is no longer supported. Microsoft removed the Skype-to-Go feature on May 31, 2022. When that worked, I was able to assign a local 647 phone number to a Hong Kong number so if I need to call one of my friends in Hong Kong, I can simply dial the local 647 number and their Hong Kong number with ring.
Receiving calls with a Skype number is still free - it only chews up your data (mobile data when not on Wi-Fi). However, the only way to use it is either on mobile/tablet with the Skype app, or on your computer.

yeah my search also found that landline was terminated by Skype. So if i just want to get an skype number on my mobile, and use wifi at home, basically use that skype number as my "landline home number", separate from my 7-11 S/O number (which is just too expensive, and only for emergency use), so i can use it on an old phone or old ipad with skype APP, can I do this, because when i click the above link and click on USA, i get a "victor, new york" number, so it would be counted as an international call if i call out or receive call within Canada? that number definitely looks odd to credit card companies.
by subscription, do you mean i need pay some monthly fee?

Why not just get a Fongo Mobile number if you want to use your smartphone as a landline phone? Fongo has area codes throughout Canada. You can make and receive calls as long as you have Wi-Fi or data... even if the app is not actively running on your smartphone.
Yes, Skype has subscriptions, but it's a bit difficult to find on the web site. With a Skype subscription, you can make calls using the Skype app to specific destinations by paying the monthly/yearly fee. If you wish to receive calls with a Skype Number, that Skype number will also need a subscription. Receiving calls with a Skype number subscription doesn't cost anything additional.
